5 Reasons You Can’t Find “Your Life Purpose”

“The only real purpose of life is to explore it in its fullest depth and dimension” Sadhguru

Life is a mystery, and people are different. You look around and see some are fulfilled, living on purpose and happy, and others are lost and directionless.

What’s my life purpose? It is one of the most popular questions lately because millennials and Gen Z don’t want just to let life happen to them.

They want to make an impact, a difference!

In the past, people got the first job they could find and got married sometimes even without choosing their spouse.

They wanted to survive!

Now, most people are comfortable. Thus, they have the time to reflect on their life purposes!

Certain people believe that they have a God-given purpose and can sit on the couch waiting for this God-given purpose to appear!

If you also believe so, I want you to pause for a second and ask yourself which God we are talking about here. What about people who are Athiest? Do they have a purpose, or are they just cursed?

Stay with me, I’m taking you on a journey here, and in the end, you may clear the confusion you have around this topic and avoid wasting more time living a meaningless life.

According to the book Ikigai, research showed the secret of why people in the Blue Zones- five specific regions- live longer and happier than everyone else in the world. They found among the most important traits, and lifestyle habit is that everyone has a clear purpose in their life, and they never retire from doing it. The purpose doesn’t need to be complex, but it’s something to live for.

Finding a purpose isn’t an easy task. In an old survey, Napoleon Hill found that 98% of people seeking his personal-development classes don’t have a clear, definite purpose.

I have seen the phrase “how to find your life purpose” in various articles, and I think the problem starts there.

Using the verb “find” and the sentence “your life purpose” or “my life purpose,” misguide people and send them on a cosmic trip and keep them stuck in a loop of self-importance.

I don’t want to use the phrase “find your life purpose.” Here are 5 reasons you are still without a clear direction.

1. You don’t find; you decide

Mark Manson said ironically, “ finding life purpose sounds like one day someone will find his life purpose under a rock somewhere.

Approaching this big and important question, as if your purpose is hidden somewhere and you have to find it, will keep you in the victim mindset. It sounds like purpose has already been created, and you have to find it and start living it.

It’s almost like you are walking in a beautiful garden, and you found a rare full blossom flower, and all you do is just cut it and enjoy its delicious smell and beauty.

NO!

You have to participate in the creation process, and you are not going to walk in a beautiful garden all the time. You might need to step in the dirt as if you are looking for Gold in an isolated gold mine.

The father of “purpose” and “ Life Meaning,” Victor Frankl, said :

Purpose is a freely chosen task

You are not going to find your life purpose. You DECIDE, and you choose a purpose for your life.

I’m not going to describe how to decide in this article.

2. There is no one specific purpose to your life

Yes, that’s right, you can have more than one purpose during your lifetime. Hence, I have problems with “ Find Your Life Purpose.” Instead, I prefer “ Decide A Purpose For your Life.”

“Your Life Purpose” implies that you must do one thing in your life. As if it’s a fixed thing in time and space.

The universe is dynamic; you are continuously evolving, and so is what you do with your life.

“Choose A purpose” implies that at a given point in time and space, you have evaluated your options, checked in with yourself, analyzed your desires, and made a clear decision.

You can live a purpose fully for some time; then, it could become empty. At that point, you can either enter into self-pity and beat yourself up for not living your only God-given purpose or make a clear decision and choose a new purpose.

Or better, your purpose could evolve, which will give you more fulfillment because progress is one of the human needs

3. You Don’t Keep It Simple

When people think of purpose, they often think of doing something massive, very fast because of the concept of self-importance!

They think of building the next Tesla or creating the most prominent philanthropic organization to solve water issues in Africa. But, they only see the end.

Your purpose could be as simple as cleaning your place and decluttering!

You can’t find your purpose because you refuse to take the baby steps; you don’t keep it simple.

You think you are important and only want to do what important people do!

Morgan Housel, the author of the book The Psychology of Money, wrote:

Most of what people share is what they want you to see. Skills are advertised, flaws are hidden. Wins are exaggerated, losses are downplayed.

Doubt and anxiety are rarely shared on social media. Defeated soldiers and failed CEOs rarely sit for interviews.

4. Your Life Has No Purpose

Life has no specific purpose other than the purpose you assign to it!

Our purpose is to live and find joy and contribute to the expansion of “Source.” Your presence is enough!

People get unsatisfied because deep inside, there is an inner calling to Be more and Do more!

You were born as a form of self-expression of Source. The Source is expressing itself through you and wants you to achieve this unique form of self-expression. Put simply; you get unsatisfied because deep inside, you have a need to fulfill your highest potential as a “god” with a small g.

Life has no purpose other than to be lived fully. Stop asking life about your purpose.

5. You are a “CREATOR”

You are a “god” with a small g. You are powerful the way you are. You have unique desires, a unique way of thinking, you have skills, or you can acquire all of these.

You are not here to sit down asking life, “what’s my purpose” you are here to CREATE your purpose.

DECIDE! DECIDE NOW!
